Taguig City, Manila – It is a rare opportunity to see a gathering of the finest minds in Human Resources in the Asia Pacific Region, and this was the herculean tasks tackled by HRM Asia Singapore last February 12-13, 2025, as they conducted “CHRO Insights: Navigating the Future of HR in the Philippines” at the SEDA Hotel, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The Philippine HR Institute (PHRI) was honored to be a part of the prestigious event, as the topics were very timely and are critical areas of focus in the current space of human capital management. The two-day event focused on the evolving landscape of HR and the future of work but also cited the need for HR Professionals to put crucial attention to learning programs and talent development.
The conference opened its first day (February 12) with a theme of gathering fresh and novel insights, as the discussions began with a powerful keynote by Gina Ordonez, Senior Vice President and Chief People Officer at the PLDT Group, wherein she discussed how PLDT not only applied lean management techniques to handle work tasks and people management alike, but also used practical principles in reimagining value creation, employer and employee identity, agility, and scalability.
Similarly, topics on cultural transformation and development were discussed that provided insights on how HR professionals provide the key roles in facilitating change in the workplace. Mr. Joe Buot, Group CHRO at Maxicare Healthcare Corporation, discussed the value of nurturing a culture that supports organizational goals, and this culture should also be of value when it comes to goals that are centered toward technological change. On another note, as the workforce experiences the emergence of an age-diverse workforce, Mr. Kirk Patrick Alimaza, Country Head of People at AirAsia Philippines, discussed how his team handles and manages the challenges faced when it comes to the differing perceptions of diverse age groups – differences in ways of working, behavioral responses to hierarchies, and the large spectrum of contrasting value systems by different generations.
Other notable discussions, timely to the experience in the Asia Pacific Region, were updates on technological implications on recruitment and talent assessment as well as the ethical implications of AI by Mr. Vladimir Bozovic, Co-Founder & CEO at ZenHire, and building effective learning and development strategies by leveraging AI to create adaptive learning pathways was tackled by Andrey Shipitkov, Regional Director—Asia at Coursera.
Relevant insights from Asia Pacific CHROs were also gathered via an interactive roundtable discussion headed by selected Filipino CHROs as facilitators. Fortunately, the PHRI team was able to participate in the dynamic discussion on talent retention and employer branding, as the discussion emphasized how to transform traditional ways to engage employees as well as cultivate talent, despite faster employee mobility.
During the second day (February 13), workshops were conducted with a critical focus on creating a human-centric culture, emphasizing the importance of putting people as a priority in the workplace.
Stay tuned for more updates from the Philippine HR Institute, as we continue to explore the future of HR and the transformative strategies shaping the workplace in the new frontier.
